Group 147 takes seven children aged 8 -18 from North/West London to Lourdes for a week each Easter. The children have a wide range of disabilities or are physically or emotionally deprived or neglected. They are selected on the basis of their medical and social needs and come from all faiths or none. For the children, it is an experience of friendship, love, laughter and opportunity. Each child has a helper, who is responsible for raising his/her own fare. The group consists of a leader, who has overall responsibility, and a nurse and chaplain who are responsible for the spiritual and medical welfare of the group. The group raises the funds for the sponsorship of all the children. The money is raised by sponsored walks, sponsored spells, readathons, church appeals, fun events and donations from local shops, schools and other organisations.
